Facts and Questions

ABOUT THE LESSONS FAQ

Q: DO I NEED TO BE IN THE WATER WITH MY CHILD?

A: We believe in a flexible approach that meets the needs of each child. In our Aqua Bonding class, we require that a parent be in the water with their child to provide them with the most comfortable and nurturing learning experience. However, for our Empowered Tots class, we typically recommend that parents watch from the pool deck, as children 2 years and older tend to benefit the most from lessons without the parent in the water.

That being said, we understand that every child is different, and we’re always happy to work with parents to find the best approach for their child’s learning journey. If your child is enrolled in the Empowered Tots class and is having a difficult time , we may suggest having a flexible approach that allows for the parent to join the class if necessary to comfort the child. This will be a topic that is addressed directly with the parent and we will work together to find the best solution for your child.

Q: DO PARENTS NEED TO BE AT THE LESSONS?

A: We require that a parent or guardian be present during all lessons. Parents can supervise lessons from inside the house or from the pool deck, ensuring that their child is safe and comfortable while learning to swim. If your child becomes distracted or overwhelmed, we recommend that you watch the lessons out of their sight, as young children often benefit from having only one person giving them directions and attention at a time.

Q: HOW FAST WILL MY CHILD LEARN HOW TO SWIM?

A: We understand that every person is unique and learns at their own pace. Factors such as lesson frequency and practice outside of lessons can also impact the learning process. Generally, the more the skill is reinforced, the faster students will pick it up. That being said, we typically see vast progress within the first 6 lessons.

We believe that learning to swim is a journey, and our goal is to help each student feel comfortable and confident in the water. We’ll work with you to create a personalized learning plan that fits your schedule and goals, and our instructors are trained to adapt to each student’s learning style. Our personalized approach ensures that every student gets the attention and support they need to make progress and reach their full potential.

Q: WHAT IF MY CHILD CRIES? IS THAT NORMAL?

A: We understand that learning to swim can be intimidating for young children, students uncomfortable with the water, and even students with special abilities. It is common for some students to cry during lessons, especially early on when they and their instructor are building rapport. Until your student knows and trusts their instructor, there may be some tears.

Our instructors are trained to handle these situations with care and compassion. They’ll tailor their approach to help your student progress and learn to enjoy their time in the water. Our number one priority is your student’s safety and learning to swim, and we’ll work with you to find the best approach for your child’s individual needs. With patience, encouragement, and a positive attitude, we believe that every child can become a confident and skilled swimmer.

Q: ARE FLOATIES ALLOWED DURING LESSONS OR OUTSIDE OF LESSON TIMES?

A: Devices such as “floaties” can give clients a false sense of security in the water. We feel, as though they don’t teach our clients to rely on their innate swimming skills. Instead, they teach people to rely on a device that doesn’t use their skills and can possibly hinder their swimming abilities. Flotation devices can also hinder stroke positions, as they position children in a vertical position when swimming instead of a horizontal position. This can lead to incorrect stroke techniques and may need correction during lessons. WIth the encouragement to utilize buoyancy and one’s own skillset without the use of outside additives, it allows them to build their skills and confidence in the water.

Q: MY CHILD'S SCARED OF WATER. CAN YOU HELP?

A: We understand that many young children can be afraid of the water. However, we believe that every child should learn to swim, as drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children under 15. Our experienced instructors are trained to handle a wide range of personality types, fears, and hesitations that your child may have, and we specialize in helping children feel comfortable and safe in the water. We take a personalized approach to every lesson, working with each child at their own pace to ensure that they feel supported and encouraged. Our goal is to help every child become a confident and skilled swimmer, regardless of their initial fear of the water. With patience, understanding, and a positive attitude, our instructors can help your child overcome their fear and learn to love the water.

Q:WHAT IF IT RAINS?

A: Our number one priority is the safety of our students and instructors. If it starts to rain during a lesson, our instructors will use their discretion to determine whether it’s safe to continue. If there is lightning, we’ll cancel the lesson immediately and reschedule for another time. If it’s a light rain without lightning, we may continue lessons, depending on the instructor’s discretion. We’ll always prioritize safety first and make sure that our students and instructors are never put in harm’s way. If lessons need to be rescheduled due to weather, we’ll work with you to find a time that is most convenient.

Q: DOES MY POOL NEED TO BE HEATED?

A: We want our students to feel comfortable and safe during their swim lessons. We recommend that pool temperatures be set to 80 degrees Fahrenheit or higher to ensure maximum comfort. While we can still provide lessons in a pool that’s cooler than 80 degrees, we understand that it may be uncomfortable for some students. If you’re unsure whether your pool is suitable for swim lessons, please feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss your options.

Q: WHAT IF I AM LATE TO MY SCHEDULED SWIM CLASS?

A: We understand that unforeseen circumstances may cause you to be late to your appointment. In the event that you are late, you will receive the remainder of your lesson time to swim. However, please note that if you arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, the lesson may be considered forfeited. Your instructor will make every effort to accommodate your schedule, but cannot guarantee the full lesson time if they have other appointments scheduled.

Q: WHAT IF MY INSTRUCTOR IS LATE TO SWIM CLASS?

A: If your instructor is late to your swim class, you will still receive your full lesson length. Our instructors make every effort to be punctual, but sometimes unforeseen circumstances arise. We value your time and want to ensure that you receive the full benefit of your lesson.

Q: CAN STUDENTS SHARE LESSONS?

A: Students can share a lesson by paying individually for two 30-minute lessons. This creates an hour-long lesson split between the two students. During the lesson, both students may be in the water at the same time. Our instructors will ensure that each student receives the proper amount of lesson time and individual attention they need.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR MAKE UP POLICY?

A: To be eligible for a makeup lesson, we require at least 24 hours’ notice of cancellation. While we understand that illnesses can occur unexpectedly, if you cancel less than 24 hours before your scheduled lesson time, there is no guarantee of a makeup lesson, and you will still be charged for the missed lesson.
